Project Details

Client: Maronda Homes

Location: Lee County, FL

Project Type: Entry Monument / Signage

Timeline: 2 Days Printing / 1 Day to Install (by Contractor)

The Challenge

The vision for Orchid Cove was to create a monumental entry feature, 21-foot long organic structure mimicking the natural flowing base of a tree. Creating this kind of non-linear geometry using traditional concrete casting would have required expensive, single-use custom molds and weeks of labor intensive finishing. Furthermore, building such a massive structure directly on-site would have disrupted the entrance area for days, exposing the curing material to weather variables and potential imperfections.

The Solution

Printera robotic printing to manufacture the structure entirely within our controlled facility. Instead of attempting a risky on-site print, our team optimized the design into six large, connecting segments. This strategic segmentation solved two problems at once: it allowed us to transport the massive 4.5-foot tall structure using standard logistics, and it significantly reduced the number of visible seams compared to traditional block construction. By printing indoors, we ensured the intricate “tree trunk” texture was flawless and the concrete was fully cured before delivery. Allowing the contractor to continue on-site preparations while construction of the monument was being printed.

The Outcome

What could have been a weeks-long construction project was condensed into a single day of installation and only 2 days of printing. Because the components arrived pre-printed and cured, the site crew simply placed and connected the six segments without the hassle of on-site mixing, pouring, or noise. The result is a stunning, durable entry monument that welcomes residents with an organic elegance, proving that complex architectural forms can be delivered with the speed and reliability of pre-cast assembly.
